ESPFA MATCHWEEK REVIEW - #MatchweekSeven Thursday fixtures

The first week of fixtures since the return of football has concluded and what an exciting week it was, with 14 games played and over 50 goals scored. We are delighted to see the students get back on the football pitch and play the game they love.

NORTHERN DIVISION

In the Northern Division, Skelmersdale United moved to top spot in the division after a convincing 0-6 win away to Witton Albion. Skelmersdale United have now won three out of their four games and drew the other, making them the only unbeaten side in the Northern Division. Runcorn Linnets managed to keep some pressure up on their North-West rivals with a 2-1 against Ossett United. Runcorn are now level on points with Skelmersdale United at the top of the table but Skem have the better goal difference. The final game in the Northern Division came from Radcliffe who welcomed Brighouse Town hoping to get back on track after defeat in their last game to Witton Albion. Radcliffe did claim the three points on this occasion with a comfortable 6-0 victory with four of the goals coming in the first 20 minutes. Brighouse managed to rally in the second half and saw a lot of the ball but couldn’t make their efforts count.

MIDLANDS DIVISION

Stafford Rangers, who currently sit on top of the midlands division extended their lead at the top to six points after beating Mickleover (Red) 2-0. Stafford handed Mickleover (Red) their first defeat of the season and are the only unbeaten team in the division. Mickleover (Black) managed to get some more momentum in their season after making it two wins in four days when they beat Belper Town 1-5 away from home. Emilio De Abreu netted a hattrick (along with a brace on Monday) to help Mickleover on their way to victory in this Derbyshire matchup.

SOUTHERN DIVISION

Southern Division leaders Chesham United maintained their 100% record with a 3-0 win against Rushall Olympic (Black). There was a lot of pressure on Chesham going into this game after Yate Town put seven past Frome Town on Monday and kept hot on their heels. The Generals put in a complete performance to take all three points and make it five wins out of five. Yate Town won’t give up on the title race just yet after another strong performance as they beat Kidlington 5-1. Sam Archer who scored a hattrick on Monday was in the goals again, scoring a brace and earned himself the title of ‘Player of the Week!’ for #MatchweekSeven. In the final game of the week, Frome Town put in a brilliant performance against Swindon Supermarine and won their first game of the season with a 1-4 victory. Frome Town showed excellent character to bounce back from defeat to Yate Town on Monday and get the win against Swindon.
