ESPFA MATCHWEEK REVIEW - #MatchweekTen

Another action-packed week of fixtures are in the book and we have our first Division winner emerge as Chesham United made it nine wins out of nine to clinch the Southern Division.

Thursday 6th April - #MatchweekTen

Northern Division

In the Northern Division, Runcorn Linnets secured their place at the top of the table with a convincing 1-4 win over Brighouse Town and are now just two wins away from being crowned as Division Winners, presuming Ossett United don’t drop any points. Brighouse Town on the other hand currently sit in sixth spot in the table and look to be finishing their as they host Witton Albion in their final game of the season next week. Ossett United lost the upper hand in the title race after a disappointing 1-6 defeat to Skelmersdale United. A win for Ossett would’ve left them one point behind Runcorn Linnets with a game in hand but now the cap is four points. Skem seemed to have bounced back well from their 7-1 defeat against Runcorn and will now be looking to catch Ossett who are two points ahead of them. The final game in the Northern Division came from Mossley where they welcomed Witton Albion. A brilliant performance from Mossley, including a hat trick scored by Alieu Bass lead them to a 7-1 win over bottom of the table Witton. Having played the least number of games in the division (8), Mossley will be hoping they can climb up the table as they approach their final run of games.

Midlands Division

The only game from the Midlands Division came from Carlton Town where they hosted Belper Town. Despite a strong start from Belper Town who had the scores level in the first half at 2-2, Carlton dominated the second half and a hat trick for Dan Flint, earned them the three points and himself the title of ‘Player of the Week!’ for #MatchweekNine.

Southern Division

Chesham United secured the Southern Division title after coming from behind to beat Swindon Supermarine 2-6. The Generals made it nine wins out of nine and will travel to Kidlington next week for a chance to make it a perfect 10.

Despite having the division title wrapped up, Chesham United captain Josh smith is not settling on that. He said: “[Winning 10 games out of 10] is the plan, we have one more game left and we are going to give it everything so hopefully we can get 10 out of 10.”

Rushall Olympic (Black) won their fourth game of the season against Frome Town in a hard-fought fixture. With the scores level at half-time, two late goals from Lewis Brady and Trafford Woolery ensure a 3-1 win for Rushall. In the final game of the week, Yate Town defeated Kidlington 0-3 away from home. All three goals came in the first half for Yate Town and the win confirms a second-place finish for them this season.

#MatchweekTen - Team of the Week

Congratulations to all students who have been nominated by their coaches for the #TeamOfTheWeek and a special mention to Carlton Town student Dan Flint, who has been awarded 'Player of the Week!' after scoring a hat trick in a 5-2 win over Belper Town.
