GEORGE ATWAL - 64TH FIRST TEAM DEBUTANT

Congratulations to former ESPFA Derbyshire student, George Atwal who made his first-team debut for Mickleover in Tuesday evening’s Northern Premier League fixture against Gainsborough Trinity. He becomes the 64th ESPFA student to make a competitive debut for the first team of our partner clubs.

Despite being named on the subs bench to start the game, Atwal came on as a substitute to help his side secure a 2-0 win that lifted them off the bottom of the table.

George also has also recently spent time on trial at Championship club Stoke City after impressing scouts that were invited down to the ESPFA National Championships.

Atwal, alongside former ESPFA Derbyshire students Bobby Battisson and Ben Lewin who started the game, were part of a very successful academy side that won the inaugural ESPFA National Championship in June.

All three players, as well as Finn Barker, Jake Edge-Lucas, Finn Bowen and Louis Pennington have been listed in Mickleover’s first team squad for the 2021/22 season. They attended ESPFA Derbyshire trials in 2020 and were recruited for ESPFA Derbyshire, in association with Mickleover.

It’s a great success to see students who have passed through the ESPFA recruitment progress into senior football and stamp their mark in the semi-professional game.
