During #MatchweekEighteen, the final NPLFA Cup quarter final was played and the stage for the semi-finals is now set. Also, two JOMA Division games went ahead which have resulted in a shake up in the league table.
In the NPLFA Cup quarter final, Mickelover Sports (Red) hosted Sports Traider Division rivals, Runcorn Linnets. After Mickleover won both home and away league games against Runcorn, they completed the clean sweep of victories, winning 3-0 on this occasion. Goals from Josh Satchwell, Deler Koecher and an own goal helped Mickleover Sports advance in to the semi-finals, where they will face Widnes.
In the JOMA Division, Stafford Rangers came from a goal down to beat Belper Town 3-1. Belper took the lead through a nicely worked counter attack finished off by Sam Boyall, but a first-half hat trick from Jayden Hunter claimed all three points for the home side. The victory for Stafford sees them leap frog Belper Town and move into second on 17 points, where as Belper fall to third spot on 14 points.
In the other game in the JOMA Division, Carlton hosted Mossley in a must win game for both teams who find themselves towards the lower end of the league table. In a closely competitive game where both teams were trying to keep it tight at the back, Carlton ran out the eventual 1-0 winners through Tanzeel Aril’s neat second half finish. This win sees Carlton Town move up from second bottom in the table to fifth, above Radcliffe and Witton Albion.
With some brilliant performances in #MatchweekEighteen and the added pressure of the final NPLFA Cup quarter final, choosing #TeamOfTheWeek was never going to be easy for the NPLFA coaches. Nevertheless, congratulations to all players selected and nominated by their coaches and a special mention to Carlton Town student, Jack Cockram who’s performance in #MatchweekEighteen earned him the title of ‘Player of the Week!’.
With only three games going ahead thanks to Storm Dennis, this weeks edition of The Highlights Show is short, sharp and sure to entertain! Watch all goals and game highlights from #MatchweekEighteen below.
