MATCHWEEK FIFTEEN - REVIEW

The fixtures keep coming thick and fast in 2020 as teams are getting back into the swing of things in the NPLFA. Six games went ahead in #MatchweekFifteen and the exciting and drama lived up to expectation.

In the JOMA Division, A hat trick from Mbemba Juwara helped Leek Town thrash Witton Albion 6-0. This cements Leek in fifth spot in the table, level on points with Radcliffe in fourth who are ahead on goal difference. The result also comes after Witton recently handed league leaders, Mickleover Sports their first defeat of the season last week. Mickleover, however did get back to winning ways this week as they put four past Radcliffe. A brace from Taylor Smith helped the league leaders on their way to a 4-0 win against Radcliffe and marks their sixth win of the campaign. Carlton Town recorded their first win of 2020 after they put in a strong team performance to beat Mossley 2-4. Despite going two goals up early, Mossley never gave up and made life difficult for the visitors. Three points for Carlton seems them leapfrog Witton and move up to sixth in the table. In a fiercely competitive game between second and third, Belper Town drew 2-2 with Stafford Rangers. The visitors seemed to be cruising for most of the game and even enjoyed a 0-2 lead not long after half time. Two late goals from Will Eley and Ryan Cheshire spoilt the party for Stafford however and earned their team a point.

In the Sports Traider Division, Widnes took full advantage of Skelmersdale United not playing and extended their lead at the top of the table. A 4-0 win over Belper Town means Widnes are now 6 points ahead of the pack but teams behind them like Skem and Mickleover have games in hand over the north west side. Runcorn Linnets were also in action and turned up for a 4-0 win over Brighouse, where Aidan Brown scored twice for the home side. This was an important victory for Runcorn as it is the first match they have won since October and the Linnets will be hoping to kick their season back on track.

Twelve teams were in action on Wednesday which always makes for a competitive #TeamOfTheWeek. Congratulations to all those nominated by their coaches and selected for #TeamOfTheWeek and special mention to Sonny Shaw who was named Player of theWeek for #MatchweekFifteen.
