MATCHWEEK SEVEN - REVIEW

In #MatchweekSeven of the NPLFA season, just four Sports Traider Division teams were in action due to postponed fixtures.

First up, after a frustrating defeat to Widnes in the cup last week, Radcliffe (Black) hosted Mickleover Sports (Black). The Derbyshire side have had a strong start to the campaign and look to close the gap on Skelmerdale United and Widnes at the top of the table. Early goals from Cameron Anthony and Lewis Benjiman put Mickleover in front but Ethan Rothwell got one back for Radcliffe before half-time after converting from the spot. Benjiman restored the two goal lead for Mickleover around 15 minutes into the second half after he instinctively put away a cross from the left wing and an intelligent finish inside the box from Nathan Smith all but sealed it for the visitors. Leon Shearer managed to calmly slot home a consolation goal at the death for Radcliffe.

In the other game of the day, Ossett United travelled to Skelmersdale United who were filled with confidence after beating Radcliffe (Blue) in the cup the week before. In a closely contested first half, Skelmersdale were the first draw blood after a brilliant shimmy on the edge of the box by Adam Morris opened up space for him to pick his spot and he finished well. Ossett were knocking on the door though and Skelmersdale managed to get to half-time a goal up thanks to some brilliant saves from Jack Banks. A second half goal from Mitchell Hobson capped off another solid three points for Skem United, who move up to first in the table with Widnes not playing.

Congratulations to all those nominated by their coaches and selected for #TeamOfTheWeek and during #MatchweekSeven and a special mention to Adam Morris from Skelmersdale United who was named ‘Player of the Week’ for his excellent midfield display against Ossett United that help his side climb up to 1st in the division.

Two brilliant games on show this week that makes for a great edition of The Highlights Show! All goals and match highlights can be seen below.
