Congratulations to Widnes student Matthew Jefferson who made his first team debut on Saturday in the Division One North West fixture on Saturday.

Jefferson was on named the bench alongside fellow NPLFA student Amir Hajri for Widnes’ home game versus Pickering Town and made his first team debut after replacing James Steele in the 72nd minute.

He becomes the 60th student from the NPLFA to make their first team debut and the second ever Widnes student to do so.

Jefferson managed to help Widnes hold on to their 3-2 lead and claimed all three points to mark an impressive debut. He has been a highly influential player in the middle of the park for Widnes so far this season and his academy side currently sit in first place in the Sports Traider Division and have also booked themselves a place in the NPLFA Cup semi-finals.
