MICKLEOVER SPORTS | 2015/16 CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to Mickleover Sports FC, who gained the point they needed at Radcliffe Borough this afternoon to retain their title and lift the ‘Jordan Burndred Memorial Trophy’.

It has been an exciting title race and a fantastic season overall on the football side of the programme and to win two consecutive league titles at this level is a credit to Tony Shaw, John McGrath, Andy Dales, Gavin Roberts, the students and everyone else behind the scenes at Mickleover Sports.

Sports went into the game knowing a point would secure them the title but also knowing any slip up could allow Belper Town to over take them with a win at 4th placed Kidsgrove Athletic.

Unfortunately for the ‘Nailers’ they couldn’t get the win they needed to put pressure on Mickleover as they were defeated comfortably 5-1 in Staffordshire. That meant that the defending champions, retained their title no matter what result they gained in Manchester but secured the point they needed before the game to become back to back champions.

In the other game of the day, Matlock Town secured a top three finish thanks to an emphatic 9-0 victory over Leek Town to end the season on a high.
