PROGRESSION WEEK – STEPHEN MELLOR

The NPL Football Academy (NPLFA) is delighted to announce that Leek Town student Stephen Mellor is off to America after gaining a ‘Soccer Scholarship’

Stephen joined the programme back in 2016 and is preparing to move across the Atlantic in the coming weeks. “I have been offered a two-tear scholarship at Cowley Community College in Kansas studying Health and Physical Education.”

The 19 year-old midfielder is keeping his options open both on and off the pitch “I would like to see where my football takes me, especially in America. If it does not work out I would like to explore the possibility of becoming a football coach or a teacher”

Named 2017-18 ‘Student of the Year’ as well as being named in the NPLFA ‘Team of the Year’ it’s been a successful two years on the programme and one the youngster has thoroughly enjoyed

“The NPLFA has everything you need if you wish to progress in semi-pro football. The coaching and the facilities are good and with the education involved as well you can do something else if the football does not work out.

“I would definitely recommend the NPLFA to any youngster. I left school and went to college and I was so unhappy there. When I saw the NPLFA it was something that any lad who loves football would love to do and now I am off the America. Hopefully the programme keeps growing and it gives more chances for talented players to get noticed.”

Everyone at the NPLFA would like to wish Stephen the very best of luck in America and we look forward to catching up with him on his first year of university in 2019.
