WIDNES APPOINT CURRENT ACADEMY COACH CRAIG DAVIES AS THEIR FIRST TEAM COACH

The NPL Football Academy are delighted to hear that Widnes FC have appointed current academy coach Craig Davies as their first team coach.

Craig has done an exceptional job in his first season with the Widnes academy, as his team currently sits at the top of the Sports Traider Division table.

We spoke with Craig to see how he has found his time so far with the NPLFA and how it feels to have been given the opportunity of the first team coaching role.

He said: “I have enjoyed every minute. Being out on the grass everyday working closely with the boys. It’s been really good to help and develop the boys technically, tactically and as people. I’m massive on application, effort and the small things like punctuality and attendance which go a long way, and not just in football.

“I’ve gained first team management experience previously and longer term, I see myself managing or coaching a side which is set up to get results. It’s an ideal progression from the academy as I can work with senior players as well as provide the link for the academy players to break into the first team environment.”

Joint-manager Kev Towey said: "Craig is an excellent coach, his methods and experience will add massively to our backroom staff. It makes sense to have Craig heavily involved with the first team. His work with the academy this season has led to several of the lads being on the verge of first team involvement."

We would like to wish Craig the very best of luck.
