The NPL Football Academy (NPLFA) is delighted to announce that Matlock Town student Liam Aston is progressing to university to study Theatre & Performance Technology.

Liam joined the programme in 2016 will now move to in Liverpool in September where he has ambitions to work in the entertainment business. “I am going to Liverpool Institution of Performing Arts (LIPA) to take a BA (Hons) Theatre & Performance Technology course for three years. My ambition is to work professionally as a lighting designer/technician for theatre/arena events.”

The young defender has his sights set on a career away from sport and has enjoyed his last two years on the programme. “The whole team atmosphere has been fantastic with laughs in the changing rooms and classroom. The training session have been good quality and the togetherness of Matlock Town itself has been great. It’s one big team.”

With many memories to take away, one moment sticks out for Liam who also urges school leavers in the area to take a look at the programme. “Winning the NPLFA Cup at Stoke City was the highlight in our last game. If you’re certain on a career in sport, it’s a great opportunity and offers great foundations to study sport at a higher standard”

Everyone at the NPLFA would like to wish Liam the very best of luck in Liverpool, we look forward to catching up with him on his first year of university in 2019.
