The ESPFA are delighted to see that former student Adam Moseley has progressed to EFL League One side Wigan Athletic from ‘player pathway partner club’ Runcorn Linnets.

Adam joined the ESPFA in 2021, having progressed through every level for the Linnets youth teams and was a huge success on the programme.

As a first-year student, Adam was voted onto the North Division ‘Team of the Year’ and also picked up the North Division ‘Golden Boot’ with 23 goals.

His second and final year was even better, inclusions in the North and National ‘Team of the Year’, the ESPFA Cheshire programme ‘Player of the Year’, North Division ‘Player of the Year’ and the ultimate accolade, being crowned the ESPFA National ‘Player of the Year’.

A second successive North Division ‘Golden Boot’ winner with 30 goals, which was also enough to collect the coveted ESPFA National ‘Golden Boot’ award.

Adam’s 53 goals in the ESPFA programme did not go unnoticed as he progressed to the Linnets U21 side, eventually making his first team debut on 8th October 2022 against Ossett United in the FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round, becoming the ESPFA’s 82nd football graduate.

Selected to represent the ESPFA’s inter-league team after a four-year absence due to Covid, Adam scored an excellent goal in the programmes 1-3 defeat to Port Vale FC.

Having collected all his individual accolades on the pitch and completing his Level 3 in Sport qualification in Summer 2023, Adam progressed to become a full-time member of the Linnets first team, where he went on to make 96 appearances, scoring 20 times, including a memorable hat-trick in the Cheshire Senior Cup Final in May 2025, which helped secure the club’s first piece of silverware in decades.

An extended trial at Wigan Athletic followed, with the 20 year old netting 17 goals in 13 appearances in the first half of the 2025/26 season, against the likes of Barnsley, Coventry City, Sheffield United, Stoke City and Swansea City, enough to earn the hot shot a professional contract, becoming the Linnets first ever first team player to move to the EFL and the ESPFA’s sixth.

Assigned the number 46 shirt, Adam was included in Latics’ first team squad in last night’s 1-0 victory in the FA Cup Third Round at Preston North End.

Adam was the model student during his time at the ESPFA and we are incredibly proud to have played a small part in enabling him to showcase his ability, alongside everyone at Runcorn Linnets who played a part in his progression from youth to senior and now football league progression.

Congratulations Adam and we wish you continued success.
