THE REVIEW - Matchweek Fifteen and Sixteen

Updated: Apr 24, 2023

Differing February half term holidays across our programmes meant there was limited games during match week fifteen and sixteen.

In match week fifteen with ESPFA Derbyshire (Mickleover Black) and ESPFA West Midlands (Rushall Olympic Amber) having free weeks, there was an opportunity for ESPFA Derbyshire (Belper Town) to take advantage at the top of the Midlands division and that is exactly what they did in a commanding four goal victory over ESPFA Staffordshire (Stafford Town).

Loui Carrington gave the Nailers the first half lead when a deep corner found the skipper who headed home the opener.

In the second half, hot shot Ewan Sutherill showed why he is the latest ESPFA Derbyshire product to train with the first team at Belper Town with a fantastic hat trick.

His first goal came when the visitors failed to clear their lines with the ball falling to the hosts number 9 who calmly slotted the ball away to double his sides lead.

Another corner this time to the near post was met by Sutherill who's brave header caught everyone out by surprise to extend the advantage.

His third and his sides fourth came towards the end of the game when Sutherill picked up the ball from 25 yards and showed great skill to give himself the opportunity to curl the ball around the goalkeeper to secure his side the victory and claim a double individual award with the player and goal of the week.

In match week sixteen, in the North East group, the fourth and final ESPFA West Yorkshire derby between Ossett United and Brighouse Town went to the Sheepicorns' with a convincing five goal victory over Town thanks to a hat-trick from leading goalscorer Keel Del-Grande and two goals in the last few minutes from Josh Heselwood and Ashton Gawthorpe to give the home side need one point to progress to the semi-finals.

In what will surely be a highly competitive North West group, ESPFA Lancashire (Skelmersdale United) recorded a fantastic 3-1 victory at ESPFA Cheshire (Runcorn Linnets) with goals coming from Ryan Hunt, Dominic Evans and Leyton Baines to give the Blues the first three points despite hot shot Adam Moseley pulling a goal back for the Yellows'.
